#photoadayapril 4/10/2012 – cold

a little bit of snow

winter pond

i live in southern california so cold is a happily distant memory from when i lived in the northeastern part of the US. however, i was visiting family in February, and the weather was lovely the whole time i was there, a bit chilly but nothing crazy, then we woke up one morning to this, i dragged myself out of bed before the sun had really started it’s business and took some pictures in the grey morning light.  i particularly liked these 2 pictures.  the best part is that by afternoon while the sun had come out and started melting things we still had a few little flurries and made for a nice walk with the beagle doggies

#photoadayapril 4/9/2012 – younger you

this is my favorite picture of me, my mom made this awesome purple outfit.  this was probably 1974ish.  i still love purple and wear it often but hate to have my picture taken so this is potentially the only picture of me in existence  🙂

#photoadayapril 4/7/2012 – shadows (of the past)

the prompt from today’s photo challenge was shadows, i dug through some pictures and even wandered outside a bit trying to find the picture i wanted capture, and then when i was looking through some other non shadow pictures, i stumbled up on this one.  i can remember when this was a functioning gate that had to be opened and closed if you wanted to travel down the road into the woods past our barn.  more often than not it was just climbed over, unless we were on our bikes or motorcycles, or hauling trash to the dump in our old truck.  funny now that taking the trash out means walking around the corner of the house, or rolling the bins to the street it is an avoided chore, but i remember when we clamored and fought and begged to be allowed to take out the trash, it meant loading it all in the truck and being allowed to drive down that road and through that gate, that the passenger had to open, the driver never had to stoop as low as getting out to open the gate*. once arrived at the dump it was fun to throw the bags out and see who could throw the farthest down the hill into the little ravine that served as our family dump, i am sure that there are treasures untold for one brave enough to climb down there and dig, broken toys and bicycles, some appliances and if memory serves probably some automobiles as well.

so i submit for your perusal, a shadow of my past.

*this phrase reminded me of a song i love as i was typing it.. Cowboy Logic by Michael Martin Murphey.

#photoadayapril 4/6/2012 – Lunch

i didn’t actually eat lunch today, i wasn’t feeling well, so i skipped lunch and worked through.  nothing sounded tasty so i didn’t bother.  so without a lunch to take a photograph of, i delved back into my photo archives for something appropriate.  this is a delicious piece of pie from the Orange Blossom in Ellington, where i had a lovely lunch with my parents and aunt and uncle a little while back when i was ‘back home’ visiting.  i love to spend time with family  and it seems like every visit home is usually such a whirlwind of quick visits her and there it was nice to sit down to a meal with my aunt and uncle and catch up and visit a little over a leisurely lunch and then a delightful dessert.  This blueberry pie was my mom’s choice, i had an amazing strawberry cheesecakey deliciousness, and dad went with his old standby pecan pie.  we enjoyed it all so much that my aunt (who’s aunt owns the restaurant) boxed up another slice for each of us to have that evening for dessert.

there is nothing like family, but a good dessert doesn’t hurt 🙂

#photoadayapril 4/5/2012 – Tiny

tiny

I don’t remember when i first heard this song, i think it might have been my grandparents, or perhaps a record they let me listen to when i was finally a big kid, old enough to put the needle on the record myself with no scratches.  i recall an album complete with lyrics on the insert paper.  bicycle built for two, buffalo gals, inchworm, were these all on the same album or is my memory mixing things up all these long years later.  i wonder where that album is now, i have a record player and can imagine many rainy days curled up on a couch with a book in my hands listening to those songs, there was no repeat or shuffle, you listened through and then either turned it over for the next set of songs or listened to the shhh, shhhh, shhh as it continued to spin after the music was done.

BUT! i digress, this post it about my inchworm, i have no marigolds, so he is measuring some pretty pink flowers, and i hope that he will indeed go far.  i cannot see an inchworm or hear the word inchworm without this song floating lazily through my head

for your reference in case no one else knows the song  here you go…

Inchworm, Inchworm,
Measuring the marigolds,
Seems to me you’d stop and see
How beautiful they are.

Inch Worm, The (1951)

#photoadayapril 4/4/2012 – someone who makes you happy

There are a lot of people who make me happy, but one person has done it consistently for the last 20+ years… and i hope will continue to do so forever…

we will be celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary this fall and each day our relationship gets better and stronger.

i love this photo challenge, i don’t always get out and take a new picture, but there is something equally special about going through older pictures and remembering special people and special times.
